ST ALBANS AREA GUIDE

Radlett is one of the most desirable and affluent suburbs in Hertfordshire

The historic cathedral city of St Albans is located in a beautiful part of the Hertfordshire countryside, yet it is still a bustling place to be, offering residents a busy high street with a fantastic array of food and restaurants, both independents and chains.

A city rich in history dating back to Roman times as it was named after a Roman soldier (and Britain’s first ever Christian martyr) who, it’s claimed, was killed after sheltering the Christian priest Amphibalus.

St Albans has a wide range of properties. There are quaint medieval cottages and large Georgian houses in the central conservation area. A hamlet in the north called Childwickbury, was the home of Stanley Kubrick, one of the most famous and influential filmmakers in history, who produced such classics as 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Shining and A Clockwork Orange.

Property prices in St Albans

Period houses in and around Fishpool Street sell for between £500,000 and £850,000. Marshalswick in the north-east has the most expensive homes, with large, detached houses selling for between £1 million and £2 million.
